In the previous article of this series, we discussed some of the very important digital marketing terms and conditions. We are uncovering the glossary of digital marketing terms alphabetically, and in the last article, we learned about all the terms those start with numerical, and alphabet A-B.

Today, in this article we are going to uncover some more very important digital marketing terms and their definitions with examples, and we will start from alphabet “C” and proceed onwards.

So, let’s start.



Caching is the non-permanent (temporary) storage of web files on a specific browser for quick access later by the end-user.

In general web browsers temporarily store webpages, such as HTML pages and images where the end-user visited recently. The main purpose of this storing is to reduce bandwidth usage, server load, and lag.

If you make changes in your webpages, sometimes you may not experience those changes on your website because the browser stored the previous version as a cache. In that case, if you clear the cache in your browser, the new changes get visible smoothly.


You have seen the campaign everywhere; it’s used to promote products, services, persons, places, everything. However, the campaign is the most comprehensive digital marketing strategy to reach potential customers.

Campaigns are sets of different advertising messages that represent or promote different themes, products, services, or markets. In digital marketing, a campaign may run through several platforms such a Facebook, Google, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.


From the viewpoint of digital marketing, codes are the sets of programming that are used to build up a website and instruct a webpage on how to perform. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, etc. are some of the common languages that are used for coding.

Contact Form

It’s a digital form on any website that helps the visitors to contact the website owners. In the contact form, the visitors need to fill up information such as names, phone numbers, email addresses, etc., and further, they can send their queries to the site owner. For digital marketers, it’s an alternative way to collect customers’ e-mail for further email marketing.


Any readable or watchable online media is called content. Without content a website or a social profile is useless. As an example, if you own a website you have to post content regularly, maybe articles, images, or videos.

“Content is the King”… this is the most popular quote for every internet marketers.

If you are associated with any sort of digital marketing business, content is the most important thing in your business life, because without content your online foundation is just online garbage.


Conversion may be defined as getting potential customers to take action. In digital marketing, mainly completion of purchase are assigned as conversion, but sometimes newsletter subscription, downloading content or any other predefined goals are also considered as conversions.


It’s a small piece of data/file that sent from a website or app that gets saved into the user’s device after they visit the site. Cookies remain stored in the user’s device which offers the users hassle-free next browsing experience. Cookies may be associated with the shopping cart, landing page, or any other pre-visited webpage.


It stands for Cost per Acquisition or it’s also called cost per conversion.

CPA is the ratio of the total amount paid by the advertiser for an advertisement vs number of converted customers.

You spent $100 for an advertisement while getting 10 sales from the same Ad copy; this means CPA = $10.


The full form of CPC is Cost Per Click. CPC is the amount of money spent by the advertiser for a Pay-Per-Click (PPC) campaign.

Suppose you are running a $100 Ad on Google and you get 50 clicks on your Ad. That means CPC = $2.


The full form of CPM is Cost Per Thousand (M is the roman numeral for 1,000). Unlike CPC, CPM deals with a number of impressions.

CPM is the amount of money spent by the advertiser for 1000 impressions of their advertisement. The term CPM is mostly used in YouTube advertisements.

As an example, you are a successful YouTuber and demand $20 CPM to run an advertisement on your channel. As an agreement with the advertiser, he/she can show the Ad on your channel up to achieving 1000 impressions in exchange for $20.

CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization)

CRO or Conversion Rate Optimization is a summation of a bunch of strategies that help to improve website performance as well as conversion rate. This can be done by optimizing the paid as well as organic traffic in order to influence the visitors’/ customers’ behavior.

Often “A/B split testing” method used to determine the influence of page visitors, which I explained in the previous lesson.


Creative is the imagery version of an advertisement that draws the attention of the audience and emotionally forces them to take action. A creative may be image-based or video-based.

CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) 

CSS is a kind of code that instructs the batch of HTML how a webpage should appear on the device screen.

CSS makes the job of a web developer easy as this coding system can instruct a bunch of HTML together rather than styling then individually, and thus saves a lot of time.


CTA stands for Call to Action. It’s an element on a specific webpage that guides the visitors to take a specific action, such as conversion.

Insertion of buttons (Buy Now, Shop Now, Reserve Your Seat, Book Here, Get Started, etc.) on a webpage is the most efficient way for CTA, but sometimes, image or standard texts also acts as CTA elements.


CTR stands for Click Through Rate. It’s a ratio of the number of clicks on an advertisement vs the number of times it was visible to the visitor (impression).

When you run an advertisement on Facebook, this will be visible to a number of people, but all of them may not be interested in your advertisement. However, people who are actually interested in the advertised product will preferably click on it to learn further, and they are considered as potential customers.

If the number of impressions is 1000 and clicked by 100 visitors, then CTR = 10%.


CVR stands for Conversion Rate. It’s the advanced step to CTR.

All clicks may not convert, CVR is the ratio of the number of clicks on an advertisement vs the number of conversions.

If an advertisement gets 100 clicks from the visitors and 10 visitors among them complete a purchase from the referred webpage, that means the CVR is 10%.



The dashboard is a webpage that represents all the important metrics at a glance. Dashboards are present at the backend of a website, Google Analytics, Facebook pixel, etc., from where you can determine the overall picture of the foundation.


In digital marketing, demographics mean the statistical data which represents the general population of a campaign. In general, demographics can be broken down by several metrics, such as age, gender, location, occupation, ethnicity, etc.

Demographics help an advertiser to optimize the audience; i.e., it’s a method to measure the group of audiences that are actually showing interest in a specific campaign.

Display Advertising

It a kind of advertisement using images or videos on Ad platforms. You can often find display advertising across platforms, such as Google AdWords, Facebook, Instagram, etc.


DKI stands for Dynamic Keyword Insertion which you’ll find in Google Adwords.

It a feature that allows customizing an advertisement base on the users’ search preferences (what their users are looking for).

A special code in the ad text enables the feature which instructs the search engine to show the advertisement when a lookalike audience is searching for a similar keyword.

Suppose you are searching for a backpack on Google. Once you type a keyword and tap to enter, Google immediately shows you a list of related products at the top, and most of those are controlled by the DKI feature.


The term DNS stands for Domain Name System.

A website URL is made of alphabetic characters while the IP addresses use numeric characters. DNS is a protocol to translate website URLs into IP addresses.

The worldwide web communicates via the numbers in IP address, on the other hand, it’s easy the use/ remember the letters/ words in web URL. The to translate The numeric IP addresses to alphabetic URL is much important, and thus DNS exists; without DNS websites would have been just a string of numbers.


A phrase that denotes a hyperlink absent of a “no-follow” tag. By default, a hyperlink is a dofollow link until a “no follow” piece of code is added to it. Dofollow links pass SEO equity to the destination URL, while “no-follow” links do not.


The domain is a bunch of letters that represent the website URLs of all the webpages on that website. In general domain name remains the same for all the webpages of a website; the domain name + the extended part represents the URL of each page.

As an example, and are URLs of two webpages, while is the domain name.

Domain Authority:

It’s a measure of the power and eligibility of a domain name that assigned based on the rank of the same in search engines. Mainly 3 factors are responsible for the domain authority,

  1. Age of the domain
  2. Popularity or traffic on that specific domain
  3. Size of the content in that domain.


It’s a phrase that denotes a hyperlink to allow getting followed by the search engines. Dofollow links allow SEO equity of a specific URL while no-follow don’t allow.

This term appears when you insert a hyperlink in WordPress content, and in general, all the links remain d0follow unless you check the no-follow box.


Dropshipping is a kind of e-commerce business that can be operated from an online platform without having a warehouse while inventory maintenance is not required.

In dropshipping, you just need to own an online store from which your visitors place orders. The good thing is, you don’t need to have a warehouse to store the products, neither you need to maintain the inventory. Instead, fillup your online store with attractive items, do some marketing to attract customers, and once you receive an order, just forward it to the original seller and pay the wholesale price. They will take care of packing and shipping for you further, you just calculate your profit and get back to attract more customers.

Dropshipping is the lowest cost e-commerce business model that you may start anytime.

Duplicate Content 

When a specific portion of texts is available within 2 different web contents, they are called duplicate content; to be more specific duplicate contents are plagiarized contents.

Duplicate content affects the website ranking because Google or other search engines don’t like to have two same content in the search result. In general, the content which indexed first, that one is considered as the original content while later one is considered as a duplicate content.

If you are doing content marketing and looking for long term business, you are strongly advised to avoid any sort of plagiarism or content duplicity.



We already discussed dropshipping above which is a kind of e-commerce.

The term e-commerce stands for Electronic Commerce. The retail or wholesale business model which may be conducted through online media, such as website, apps, etc.

Email Automation

To clearly understand email automation, first, you need to know about email marketing which I discussed just below. However, to maintain the alphabetical order I had to place email automation at the top.

It’s a kind of email marketing that can be performed automatically with the help of software-based on predefined triggers.

To be more simple, using email automation software you can send multiple emails in a sequence based on the behavior of the audience, and the statics can be measured with the funnel.

As an example, you have predefined persons A, B, and C for sending the email. In your automation funnel, you have designed to send the same email to all of them, then in a sequence, you defined to send different emails to them based on their behavior on the first email, and so on.

In email automation, the emails will be sent to the users base on the flowchart in predefined.

Email List

It’s a list of emails of the audience for email marketing. There are several ways to collect emails from potential customers but the most popular way is to collect emails from landing pages. You can collect a long list of visitors’ emails by offering free services, coupons discounts, etc.

Email Marketing:

Email marketing is a class of digital marketing where you can attract visitors through email content.

First, you need to have an e-mail list. As I mentioned above an email list can be generated from the landing page, or also may be collected from the previous purchases in your store.

Next, start distributing content, sales promotions, or services via email to grow up a good relationship with potential customers. However, email automation is the most efficient way of email marketing.


Facebook Advertising

Nowadays, generating potential customers via Facebook Ad network is one of the most popular ways to leverage online sales; this particular strategy is known as Facebook advertising.

Facebook Advertisement is more efficient to relay new product information to a range of new people who are not aware of the same, while Google Advertisement is good to reach those people who are actually searching for that specific item.

Facebook Ads Manager

Facebook Ads Manager is a platform for creating Facebook Ad campaigns.

In Facebook Ad manager you can create a different type of Ad campaign by setting different goals, such as post engagement, page likes, traffic generation, conversion, etc. You can also check the Ad results with vast demographic information, such as age, country, region, gender, etc., which helps you to optimize a campaign properly.

Facebook Business Page

It’s a webpage where you can create your Facebook Ad account by representing your foundations. Facebook business page allows users to access Facebook Ads Manager.

Facebook Pixel

It’s an important tool for Facebook advertisers which can demographically track a website’s visitors, and help you to optimize advertisements.

To install Facebook Pixel to your website you need to place the provided HTML code in your header section.


Frequency represents the number of times a specific advertisement creates the impression of a single person. The term is visible in the Facebook Ads manager.

If an advertisement is visible too many times on a single person, it results in Ad fatigue. To avoid Ad fatigue it is preferred to set a frequency (max. 3) or stop an Ad after reaching a specific frequency.



GA stands for Google Analytics, which is one of the most important tools for analyzing your website performance. Google Analytics can track the website visitors by vast demographical information which widely helps you to optimize your website.

Similar to Facebook Pixel, an HTML code needs to be installed in your website’s header section to activate GA.

Google AdWords

Awards are pay-per-click (PPC) advertising platform owned by Google from which you can create, manage, and optimize Ad campaigns.


GSC stands of Google Search Console, and definitely another very important tool for digital marketers. GSC is a webmaster service that helps to monitors, maintains, and optimize a website’s performance. The major role of GSC are,

  1. Indexing a site
  2. Track the site traffic
  3. Provide information about crawl errors. 


GTM or Google Tag Manager allows advertisers to manage all the tags for a website. For the advertisers, GTM is pretty useful because this tool allows us to change or add tags or code snippets to their website without visiting WordPress backend repeatedly.
